Fear of the Children
“Sometimes I feel the only thing keeping us together is fear of the children.” – The New Yorker.
I think parents today are torn between fear for and fear of their kids. We’re afraid to let them out on their own, but then we’re also afraid of what will become of them after they’ve been stuck inside for years playing endless apps on the iPad.
Still, there’s nothing like a little fear to make you really appreciate those moments when it’s just of the two of you together, husband and wife joined together and bracing yourselves against the terror that is your children.
At one time it was the two of you against the world, now it is the two of you against the kids. And that’s how it should be. God had to kick Adam and Eve out of the Garden of Eden. And we don’t even need to talk about Kane and Abel. Clearly, this is a long-running problem.
